Bulgaria and the Republic of Korea to Intensify Cooperation in the Automotive and Energy Sectors

The Minister of Economy and Industry Bogdan Bogdanov and the newly appointed Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to our country H.E. Mr. Be Zhongin discussed the opportunities for deepening the economic and investment relations between the two countries.

They discussed the potential for partnership between Bulgaria and the Republic of Korea in the field of automotive sector, energy, information and communication technologies, healthcare and innovation.

Bogdanov and Ambassador Be Zhongin agreed to work actively to expand trade and open new opportunities for investors from both countries.

Minister Bogdanov stressed that the Republic of Korea is a priority strategic partner in Asia and intensifying bilateral economic relations is very important for us.

In his words, Bulgaria could become a hub for energy storage systems, with Korean companies participating in the process to build this capacity.

The Minister pointed out that Bulgaria is already a member of the European Battery Alliance. ‘We can work on common projects and use Bulgarian capacity for recycling batteries and raw materials, as well as for building complete energy storage systems,’ he said.

Bogdanov pointed out that the automotive sector is among the fastest growing in the country. He said our country has talented IT professionals and sufficient expertise to develop software for autonomous vehicles. In his words, more and more investors from the automotive industry are opening development centres in Bulgaria.

During the meeting the Minister of Economy also announced that among the main priorities of the government are Bulgaria’s accession to Schengen, the euro area and our accession to the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development.

He assured that work is being done for a predictable business environment, as well as for transparency and easing of administrative processes for business in Bulgaria.
