On the sidelines of the meeting of the Council of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) on 2-3 May 2024 in Paris, Deputy Minister for Economy and Industry Nikolay Pavlov held a meeting with Ms Gita Kothari, Deputy Director, and Ms Gandia Robertson, Senior Advisor, in the Directorate of Legal Affairs of the OECD Secretariat, which is responsible for relations with candidate countries and coordinates the process of their accession to the Organisation. On the Bulgarian side, the meeting was also attended by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, representatives of the two ministries and the Bulgarian Ambassador to France.
Deputy Minister Pavlov reaffirmed the strong political commitment to Bulgaria’s accession to the OECD and noted the good coordination between the Bulgarian institutions in the process. He emphasised the leading role of the Department of Trade and Industry in the reviews by the Corporate Governance, Trade, Consumer Protection and Steel Committees.
The OECD Secretariat praised the progress made by Bulgaria in the technical reviews of the OECD Thematic Committees. A total of 41 reviews will take place in 2024, 12 of which have already been completed. All reviews are expected to be completed by the end of 2025 or early 2026 at the latest.
