Promoting strategic investment, reducing the administrative burden and modernising Bulgarian industry are among our key priorities. Our ambition is for Bulgaria to become a regional hub for high-tech investment, as well as a secure and competitive destination for investment. Deputy Minister of Economy, Investment and Industry Michaela Karadimova said this at the Annual Conference of Bulgaria’s Ambassadors Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary and Permanent Representatives, organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
“Our goal is to attract more high-value-added investment in technology, innovation, microelectronics, the automotive industry, artificial intelligence, digital infrastructure, the defence industry, energy, biotechnology and other sectors,” she said.
Karadimova noted that the Ministry of Economy, Investment and Industry is actively working to create a more competitive and predictable business environment. “We have established an Investment Promotion Coordination Council within the Council of Ministers and have prepared a draft Public-Private Partnership Act designed to benefit businesses and investors. We are also working to reduce the administrative burden, with around 300 measures already identified,” she said. According to her, the new strategic investor coordination mechanism is intended to ensure faster administrative procedures, better institutional coordination and personalised support.
In her address, Deputy Minister Karadimova emphasised the key role of economic diplomacy in Bulgaria’s development and called on Bulgaria’s representatives abroad to take proactive steps to promote business and investment in the country. “Economic diplomacy has never been more important to Bulgaria’s development than it is today. In the face of increasingly intense international competition, we can no longer wait for investors to discover our country on their own. Bulgaria must be proactive – reaching out first to strategic investors, offering practical solutions and building long-term partnerships,” she said.
Deputy Minister Karadimova noted that the Ministry of Economy, Investment and Industry has an extensive network of Commercial and Economic Offices which, together with Bulgaria’s representatives abroad, play an important role in showcasing the country’s economic potential, supporting Bulgarian businesses and attracting investment.
“Economic diplomacy today is measured by the results it delivers – more investment, more exports, more high-tech manufacturing, higher productivity and better opportunities for Bulgarian enterprises,” she said.
According to her, through the combined efforts of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Economy, Investment and Industry, the Commercial and Economic Offices, the Bulgarian Investment Agency and the entire diplomatic corps, international confidence in Bulgaria can be translated into tangible economic results.
