Steps have been taken to develop and modernize the State dairy processing company LB Bulgaricum. The company has started building a cutting-edge R&D Laboratory in partnership with the Japanese corporation Meiji. This new scientific center will employ both Bulgarian and Japanese scientists, using state-of-the-art high-tech facilities and methods to explore new health benefits of Bulgarian yogurt, a product of Bulgarian national heritage. The ten-year strategic partnership agreement between the State-owned company and the Japanese company builds on a 50-year collaboration, which began with the creation of the first joint Bulgarian-Japanese research laboratory focused on lactic acid bacteria.
