The partnership between the European Union and India opens new opportunities for investment and economic growth. This was stated by the Deputy Minister of Economy and Industry, Krasimir Piperkov, during the business forum “EU – India: New Horizons for Business and Investment”. The event was organised by the Embassy of India in Sofia and the Indian-Bulgarian Business Chamber (IBBC).
Deputy Minister Piperkov highlighted the importance of deepening economic ties between the European Union and India in the context of a dynamic global environment. “Today’s discussion is taking place in a complex and rapidly changing global environment. Investment in trusted partnerships and reliable relationships is a key competitive advantage in this situation,” he said. Emphasis was also placed on the long-standing traditions in bilateral relations between Bulgaria and India, which span more than seven decades. “Trade between Bulgaria and India has been increasing over time and reached approximately EUR 500 million over the past year. Our ambition is to significantly increase this volume in the coming years,” the Deputy Minister stated.
He also noted the strategic importance of the political agreement reached on a free trade agreement between the EU and India. “This represents a strategic milestone that lays the foundations for one of the largest economic partnerships in the world,” Krasimir Piperkov added.
The event was also attended by H.E. Arun Kumar Sahu, Ambassador of India to Bulgaria; Yordanka Chobanova, Head of the Representation of the European Commission in Bulgaria; Tsvetan Simeonov, Chairman of the Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry; and Dr Petar Velev, Chairman of the Indian-Bulgarian Business Chamber.
