Minister Bogdan Bogdanov: The positive trend of record increase of investments in Bulgaria continues

Investments for 2023 will reach BGN 7 billion, which is nearly BGN 2 billion more than the previous year, he said

We are reporting the highest growth of foreign direct investment (FDI) in Bulgaria in the last 12 years. Only for the period January — November 2023 they amount to BGN 7 billion. The increase is nearly BGN 2 billion more compared to the same period in 2022. This was announced by the Minister of Economy and Industry Bogdan Bogdanov during a meeting with Christoph Debus, Chief Financial Officer of the German company Flix and Peter Bankov, Director of the Global Service Center of the company in Bulgaria. The future expansion plans of the German company in Bulgaria were discussed at the meeting.

Minister Bogdanov pointed out that our country is a good place for investment and business development. ‘Bulgaria is becoming a hub for development in the region. We have a proven engineering capacity and more and more companies are interested in establishing R&D and expert centres in our country,’ he emphasised.

The Minister of Economy and Industry and the representatives of Flix discussed the development of the company in the country and the expansion of its activities through the Global Service Centre in Sofia and the hiring of new employees there.

In 2021, FlixMobility, known for its transport services through the FlixBus and FlixTrain brands, invested in a Knowledge Hub Sofia.

The company’s expert center in Bulgaria, with activities ranging from IT and digitalization to marketing and accounting, currently employs more than 60 people, and the team is expected to continue to grow and reach 100 specialists this year, it became clear at the meeting. With this, the Bulgarian office will become the second largest center of the German company after the one in Munich.

The German-based transport company Flix, founded in 2012, is now present in 42 countries with more than 78 million customers, managing transport services worldwide, including Europe, North and South America. Thanks to its business model and innovative technology, the company is rapidly creating the longest bus network in Europe, where it is the number one operator.
