Bulgaria has the potential to become a European hub for energy storage. This was announced by the Minister for Economy and Industry Bogdan Bogdanov at the Bulgarian-Korean Energy Forum, dedicated to improving cooperation in the field of sustainable energy transformation and energy security.
The event, organized by the Atlantic Club, was attended by the newly appointed Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to our country Dr. Jongin Bae, government ministers, MPs, energy experts and others.
According to Minister Bogdanov, our country has the personnel, infrastructure, strategic location and opportunities that, if used, could establish it as a hub for the development of energy storage systems in Europe and technologies of the future. ‘The decarbonisation process is a difficult transition, but it is also an opportunity for innovation, investment and economic development’, the minister added.
Bogdanov was adamant that the government and society should help the business in this transition because it is the active player in it. The Minister stressed that the state can provide support with policies and different types of funding.
During the forum Bogdan Bogdanov recalled that Bulgaria has remained energy stable despite the war in Ukraine.
‘Decarbonisation has to happen, we have to implement the energy transformation’, the minister said.
During the event, the newly appointed Korean ambassador to the country announced that the dilemmas facing the sustainable green transition can no longer be postponed. He recalled that Bulgaria is a pioneer in the use of solar energy and announced that his country would be happy to cooperate with ours in the fields of green hydrogen production and in the nuclear energy sector.
