Minister Bogdanov: Campaign for more affordable food prices launches on 15 November

As of November 15, prices for certain items in grocery stores will be lower. They will be branded with the “Accessible for you” logo. The aim of the initiative is to achieve permanently low prices for Bulgarian consumers, Minister of Economy and Industry Bogdan Bogdanov said on BTV.

“Every store that has joined the campaign will use the logo of the “Affordable for you” initiative. It will be positioned next to the merchandise that is on offer that particular week,” he clarified. The price should be the lowest they can offer for the item.

“On a weekly basis at the Ministry of Economy, we will do an analysis to monitor price dynamics. In a next stage, users will be able to select a product suitable for them on the department’s website and see where they can buy it. We are starting the initiative with the big chains, and we are also in talks with small regional ones. The aim is to ensure the most affordable prices for certain goods in the consumer basket,” the Economy Minister added.

According to the minister, in addition to the 50 food products, non-food products such as medicines will also be added in the second stage.

There are at least 50 products that are part of the initiative. Of these, at least 16 products in a store must be marked with the logo, and they are from different groups — vegetables, fruits, meat, dairy and others, the minister explained.

From 15 November, Bulgarian consumers will be able to find the logo of the “Affordable for You” initiative when the campaign officially launches.
