The Minister of Economy and Industry, Peter Dilov, took part in the Bulgarian delegation that visited Zograf Monastery for the enthronement of Hieromonk Gavriil as Abbot of the “St. George the Victorious” Monastery on Mount Athos.
The delegation, which also included the Minister of Justice Georgi Georgiev, the Minister of Agriculture and Food Georgi Tahov, and the Minister of Youth and Sports Ivan Peshev, was solemnly received at the holy monastery – the only entirely Bulgarian monastery in Mount Athos.
The ministers paid their respects in the cathedral, learned about the monastery’s history and spiritual traditions, and honoured the grave of the late Archimandrite Ambrosiy. The new Abbot personally welcomed the delegation andpresented the miraculous icons of St. George.
During the visit, a tour was conducted of the monastery’s library – one of the most treasured repositories of Bulgarian written heritage and spiritual memory. It houses the original draft of “Slavic-Bulgarian History” by Paisiy Hilendarski – a powerful symbol of the Bulgarian National Revival.
During their visit, the delegation was also briefed on the progress of the restoration of the monastery’s eastern “Bansko Wing” – another significant project financed by the Bulgarian state.
