Minister Dilov: Effective Foreign Economic Cooperation Is Crucial for Bulgaria’s Sustainable Economic Development

The next important step is Bulgaria’s accession to the OECD, according to the Minister of Economy

Despite the challenging global economic environment and the current difficulties, Bulgaria continues to maintain its economic stability and is increasingly establishing itself as a country with a favourable investment climate. The Bulgarian economy demonstrates resilience, and during the second quarter, the country recorded a 3.4% growth in Gross Domestic Product (GDP) compared to the same period last year.

This was stated by Minister of Economy and Industry Peter Dilov in his address during the “Introductory Seminar for Newly Appointed Members of the Foreign Diplomatic Corps in Bulgaria”, organised by the Diplomatic Institute at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in partnership with the Ministry of Economy and Industry.

Minister Dilov emphasised that effective foreign economic cooperation is crucial for the sustainable economic development of the country. “Among our key objectives are improving the competitiveness of Bulgarian enterprises and advancing their digitalisation,” he added.

According to him, achieving export growth and attracting investment are essential for technological modernisation and production renewal, for the development of innovative products and services, and for enhancing competitiveness, thereby meeting the goals of accelerated growth and job creation.

The Minister of Economy was firm that a key factor in increasing exports and the volume of foreign direct investment is the work of the trade and economic representatives abroad at the Ministry, whose efforts are focused on identifying potential partners and strategic investors.

“The Trade and Economic Affairs Offices (TEAOs) serve as a direct link between businesses and the competent economic structures that promote Bulgaria as an attractive business, investment, and tourism destination. They provide timely and comprehensive support for Bulgarian enterprises and encourage the attraction of foreign investment,” he assured.

Addressing the newly appointed members of the diplomatic corps in Bulgaria, Minister Dilov outlined the main economic priorities of the country and stressed that, following Bulgaria’s accession to the Schengen Area and its forthcoming entry into the euro area on 1 January 2026, work continues towards joining the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).
