Minister Dilov and Ukraine’s Ambassador to Bulgaria Explore Opportunities to Strengthen Economic Relations

The Minister of Economy and Industry, Peter Dilov, held a meeting with the Ambassador of Ukraine to Bulgaria, H.E. Olesya Ilashchuk, at which they discussed bilateral economic relations.

During the meeting it was revealed that, in the first ten months of 2024, trade between the two countries exceeded USD 1.6 billion.

Both parties agreed that Bulgaria and Ukraine have significant potential for developing trade and investments, and they discussed opportunities for improving economic cooperation in various sectors of mutual interest.

During the meeting, Minister Dilov and Ambassador Ilashchuk spoke about the prospects for Bulgarian companies to take part in the post-war recovery and reconstruction of Ukraine. “We are looking for specific Ukrainian projects where Bulgarian companies can participate as suppliers, contractors, or subcontractors. These projects could be in areas such as infrastructure and construction, energy, and transport and logistics,” the Minister of Economy emphasized.

Minister Dilov and the Ambassador of Ukraine also discussed the possibility of organizing a session of the bilateral Intergovernmental Commission for Economic Cooperation, which could give new impetus to trade and economic relations. During the meeting it was revealed that such a session has not been held for 15 years.

The conversation also focused on the possibilities of organizing joint business forums that would deepen relations between companies from both countries.

H.E. Olesya Ilashchuk highlighted the successful bilateral economic relations and thanked Bulgaria for its broad support for Ukraine—political, financial, military, humanitarian, and diplomatic.
