The Ministry of Economy and Industry presents plans to improve the international visibility of Bulgarian companies

“We are preparing a sector-specific analysis to map out which companies produce what in Bulgaria. Currently, such a study does not exist, and its findings will help us develop targeted strategies for industrial development and improved market access,”.

This was announced by the Minister of Economy and Industry, Peter Dilov, during the Fifteenth Annual Awards Ceremony organised by the Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) and the Ministry, honouring the most successful Bulgarian Commercial and Economic Sections (STIV) abroad for the year 2024.

Minister Dilov explained that the BCCI will provide the Ministry with access to sector-specific company data, which will significantly facilitate the work of commercial attachés in representing Bulgarian businesses internationally.

The Minister also outlined forthcoming initiatives in support of Bulgarian enterprises. “We will begin regularly providing up-to-date information on registration regimes and licensing procedures to ease the operations of Bulgarian businesses in foreign markets,” he noted. He further revealed that plans are underway to develop a dedicated digital platform showcasing all Bulgarian companies, their activities, and product portfolios. According to him, such a resource would not only improve Bulgarian firms’ access to foreign markets but also give international partners clearer insight into what Bulgarian industry can offer.

During the awards ceremony, Minister Dilov congratulated the recipients and emphasised the critical importance of their efforts in positioning Bulgaria as a trustworthy economic partner on the global stage. “These awards serve not only as moral recognition but also as a powerful incentive for our trade representatives to continue advocating for national interests with even greater vigour, while creating new opportunities for Bulgarian businesses,” he stated.

He also highlighted the importance of STIV efforts not just within the EU, but on strategically distant markets where the focus lies on establishing new economic ties, strengthening the national brand, and attracting investment and tourism.

This year’s edition saw the presentation of 15 awards, including honorary diplomas, special certificates, and the prestigious bronze Hermes statuette. The event was attended by Deputy Minister Dontcho Barbalov, BCCI President Tsvetan Simeonov, and BCCI Deputy Chair Vasil Todorov.

First place in the ranking was awarded to STIV France, which received the Hermes bronze statuette and a certificate for outstanding contribution to bilateral economic relations. Honourary diplomas were presented to STIV Albania, South Korea, and Moldova. Second place went to STIV Greece, and third place was awarded to STIV Hungary. A special certificate of recognition from the Ministry was also presented to STIV Tokyo, Japan.

The ceremony took place in the context of the 130th anniversary of the Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry – the oldest nationally represented business organisation in the country, which continues to play a key role in economic diplomacy and in supporting Bulgarian entrepreneurs.
