The Minister of Economy and Industry and Industry reviewed the new investment programme for BGN 800 million at the copper plant near Pirdop and Zlatitsa.

Minister Dilov paid a working visit to Aurubis Bulgaria. He was presented with the company’s new investment programme worth BGN 800 million over the next four years at the copper plant near Pirdop and Zlatitsa. The company’s project is for the expansion and modernisation of production and the construction of new environmentally friendly facilities at the plant, with this being the largest German investment in Bulgaria.

“We are focusing precisely on investments like this, which generate greater added value in Bulgarian industry and production and are related to energy efficiency and the circular economy,” Minister Dilov said.

He pointed out that German companies are among the largest investors in our country. According to him, about 30% of the 100 largest investors in Bulgaria are German companies, and Aurubis is the biggest among them.

Minister Dilov held a working meeting with Tim Kurth, Chief Operating Officer of the entire Aurubis Group, the company’s management and mayors of neighbouring municipalities. The mayors of Zlatitsa – Lyubomir Tsvetkov, Pirdop – Angel Gerov and Anton – Andrey Simov were also present.

The company’s activity, its role for the Bulgarian economy and for the growth of the gross domestic product were presented at the meeting. Issues related to the interaction with local authorities were also discussed.

During the talks, it became clear that the company also generates a significant part of the country’s exports – 7.3%, as well as imports – 4.4%, according to data for 2023.

Minister Dilov reviewed the company’s production facilities at the refinery, as well as the construction of the new production.

The Minister of Economy and Industry and Industry pointed out that the manufacturing industry plays an important role for the national economy. According to him, it provides a significant part of the country’s exports and at the same time it is related to the creation of jobs and the development of local infrastructure and overcoming regional imbalances.

He announced that the Ministry of Economy and Industry is developing a National Industrial Strategy for the manufacturing and mining industry 2025-2030, jointly with the EC and business, which should also reflect the trends in industrial policy at European level.

“This will be a strategic document that will outline the directions for the development of industry in Bulgaria. It is key to increasing the competitiveness of the industry and will encourage economic growth, in line with the interests of business and society,” Dilov pointed out.
