The Minister of Economy took part in the OECD Council’s annual ministerial meeting.
The Minister of Economy and Industry, Peter Dilov, participated in the annual meeting of the Council of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) at ministerial level, held in Paris, France.
The Minister of Economy is part of the Bulgarian delegation to the forum, led by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Georg Georgiev.
This year’s theme for the OECD Ministerial Council Meeting is “Towards Sustainable and Inclusive Prosperity through Rule-Based Trade, Investment, and Innovation”.
The event also provided an opportunity to present Bulgaria’s progress in the process of accession to the organisation.
Minister Dilov commented that the benefits for Bulgaria from joining the OECD would unlock the potential of the Bulgarian economy.
“I am confident that embracing the organisation’s values and best practices will send a strong signal to trade partners and international investors,” he stated.
Minister Dilov delivered a speech during the session on “Improving Multilateral Cooperation and the Rule-Based International Trading System for Promoting More Stable and Robust Global Supply Chains”.
In his remarks, he emphasised that the OECD can serve as a forum for international dialogue and support multilateral action.
According to him, the organisation plays a vital role at times when enhanced international cooperation is needed to address disruptions in trade and investment.
“We support a global level playing field, the promotion of fair trade practices, the preservation of open market advantages, and the proper functioning of a rule-based global trading system,” Dilov highlighted.
The Minister of Economy stated that overcoming uncertainty, growing trade barriers, and a fragmented global economy requires the promotion of rule-based trade.
In his view, it is crucial to enhance competitiveness, ensure predictability, and strengthen the resilience of supply chains.
“Crises know no borders, and international cooperation in addressing them plays a key role,” he firmly stated.
In his address, Minister Dilov assured that Bulgaria will work in close cooperation with the organisation’s member states to tackle existing challenges.
The Ministerial Council is the highest decision-making forum within the OECD, which oversees the organization’s work, sets priorities, discusses the global and economic context, and addresses issues such as the OECD budget and the accession process. The Council brings together ministers of finance, economy, foreign affairs, trade, and other governmental institutions from OECD member and partner countries, as well as representatives of international organisations. It convenes at this level once a year.
