A meeting of the National Economic Council (NEC) was held at the Ministry of Economy and Industry, where topical matters were discussed, including the introduction of auctions for long-term supply of low-emission electricity and the preparation for a new model for calculating a municipal waste fee based on the actual quantity of the deposited waste.
The Minister of Economy and Industry Peter Dilov emphasised the importance of long-term policies for the sustainability and competitiveness of Bulgarian industry, especially in the context of the transition to a climate-neutral economy.
At the meeting, it was emphasized that Bulgaria will continue to play a key role in the industry, especially in the area of climate technologies, and it was pointed out that the country is establishing itself as a reliable source of innovation and sustainable development in the energy sector.

The National Association of Municipalities of the Republic of Bulgaria (NAMRB) presented an Action Plan for NAMRB and the municipalities to transition to new ways of determining a municipal waste fee, aiming at a fair and transparent determination of the municipal waste fee based on the actual quantity of the deposited waste. The new model takes into account the amount of waste, as well as the number of users and used containers.
Information was also presented by the Ministry of Finance regarding the tax legislation in this area, as well as by the Ministry of Environment and Water for the planned funding under the Environment 2021-2027 programme.
“We must work together on long-term policies that guarantee the sustainability and competitiveness of Bulgarian industry, as well as on effective and sustainable waste management in cooperation with all stakeholders,” Minister Dilov stated.
Representatives of the institutions and the employers’ organizations participated in the meeting.
