Minister Dilov: Modernisation and Capacity Expansion Underway at VMZ Sopot

An 8% salary increase at the state-owned company effective from 1 July

Base salaries at VMZ-Sopot will be increased by 8 % starting from 1 July this year. This was announced today following a meeting of the Board of Directors of the state-owned enterprise under the Ministry of Economy and Industry.

The pay raise was agreed upon after negotiations with the leadership of the trade unions of KNSB (Confederation of Independent Trade Unions in Bulgaria) and “Podkrepa” Labour Confederation.

Two new production workshops are also due to be commissioned at the Sopot site of VMZ. These facilities will manufacture artillery ammunition and are equipped with high – capacity and modern machinery, which will enhance the in-house production of mechanical components for the final products.

The Executive Director of VMZ, Eng. Ivan Getsov, stated that the company is also working to improve working conditions through a comprehensive investment programme. Production units at the Iganovo site are currently undergoing reconstruction and modernisation.

“VMZ is a key enterprise for the region and for the Bulgarian economy. We will make every effort to ensure its continued modernisation and development by expanding and upgrading existing production capacities, as well as by providing sustainable jobs and higher wages,” commented the Minister of Economy and Industry, Peter Dilov.

According to him, VMZ is a system-forming enterprise within the defence industry complex and plays a vital role in both national security and the country’s economy.
