We will protect the interests of Bulgarian citizens to ensure that no consumer is disadvantaged and that households’ purchasing power is preserved
Bulgaria’s accession to the Eurozone will strengthen our economy, provide security for businesses and citizens, and facilitate trade and investment. This was stated by Minister of Economy and Industry Peter Dilov in Plovdiv during an Information Meeting, part of the National Information Campaign on the introduction of the euro in Bulgaria.
Minister Dilov noted that the experience of Eurozone countries has clearly shown that people’s incomes grow faster, economies become more competitive and attractive to investment, and businesses gain new opportunities for growth and partnership.
“This is one of our most significant achievements as a member of the European Union. The adoption of the euro is an act of trust – trust in our country, in its financial discipline, and in the path Bulgaria chose upon joining the EU. This trust must be justified through transparency, dialogue and an honest conversation with society,” he underlined.
According to him, the first positive effects are already visible even before the official introduction of the euro on 1 January 2026. “Bulgaria’s credit rating has been upgraded to its highest levels since 2007, with expectations of a further increase. This is a clear sign of confidence from the international financial markets,” Dilov added.
The Minister of Economy assured that small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), the backbone of Bulgaria’s economy, will be among the greatest beneficiaries of the euro’s introduction, as the removal of currency conversion costs will mean direct savings for them.

Dilov stressed that the common currency will make it easier for SMEs to access European markets, accelerate and reduce the cost of trade, and make contracts with foreign partners more secure. “Lower transaction costs and better financing conditions will give these companies more resources for investment, innovation and expansion. With the euro, SMEs will be more competitive and able to establish themselves more confidently both on the domestic market and internationally,” he said.
The Minister of Economy was categorical that the state is committed to protecting the interests of Bulgarian citizens. “We are introducing dual price display – clear and legible, to prevent any doubt or deception. We are strictly monitoring accurate conversion and rounding to ensure there is no artificial price increase,” Dilov declared. He also announced the launch of continuous monitoring of the prices of essential goods and services, with regular public reporting on any changes.
“All these measures are aimed at the most important goal – ensuring that no consumer is disadvantaged and that households’ purchasing power, particularly that of socially vulnerable groups, is preserved,” Dilov stressed.
“Our objective is clear: stability for the economy, transparency and fairness for consumers, and guarantees that no one will be left at a disadvantage. Only in this way can we greet 1 January 2026 as a confident, stable and strong Bulgaria – an equal part of the heart of Europe,” concluded the Minister of Economy and Industry.
Also present at the event were Minister of Electronic Governance Valentin Mundrov, Minister of Justice Georgi Georgiev, Minister of Environment and Water Manol Genov, Deputy Minister of Finance Metodi Metodiev, and Mayor of Plovdiv Kostadin Dimitrov. The forum was also attended by representatives of local authorities, businesses and citizens.
