The Minister of Economy and Industry Nikola Stojanov met with the newly appointed Ambassador of Ukraine to Bulgaria H.E. Ms. Olesya Ilashchuk. They discussed the state and prospects of bilateral cooperation in the economic sphere, as well as the opportunities for deepening trade ties between the countries.
‘There is a Bulgarian historical diaspora of over 200 thousand people in Ukraine, which further strengthens our relations and creates a solid basis for their further strengthening in all areas of mutual interest,’ Minister Stojanov said. He added that the two countries have traditionally good economic relations and over the years Ukraine has been among Bulgaria’s leading trade partners.
‘The two countries have shown that they maintain and build on their economic ties, even in times of war,’ Nikola Stojanov said. He stressed Bulgaria’s solidarity with the Ukrainian people and the readiness of Bulgarian companies to actively participate in the process of rebuilding the country after the end of hostilities, ‘which we all hope will come as soon as possible’.
Minister Stojanov also raised the issue of increased imports of grain and sunflower from Ukraine and stressed the need to find a balanced solution for the region.
