Minister Nikolov: The Full Accession of Bulgaria to Schengen, in OECD and the Eurozone Guarantees Economic Development

We are actively working on attracting foreign investors and creating favorable business conditions and supporting export-oriented companies by strengthening trade-economic contacts, the Minister of Economy and Industry Dr. Petko Nikolov said in his speech during the Introductory Seminar for Newly Appointed Representatives of the Diplomatic Corps, organized by the Ministry of Economy and Industry in partnership with the Diplomatic Institute at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Deputy Minister Nikolay Pavlov and the Director of the Diplomatic Institute at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Tanya Mihaylova also took part in the seminar.

Dr. Nikolov pointed out that the policies conducted by the Ministry of Economy and Industry aim for a favorable institutional environment for business operations, including through the creation of an ecosystem of industrial parks throughout the country, through the construction of prepared industrial sites and the creation of conditions for the development of research and development activities.

Speaking to the newly appointed representatives of the diplomatic corps in Bulgaria, Minister Nikolov outlined the main economic priorities of the country, such as full accession to the Schengen Area, to the OECD, and to the Eurozone, which will ensure the sustainable economic development of Bulgaria.

He said that the full accession of Bulgaria to Schengen will make the movement of people and goods in the region easier, will strengthen economic ties, and will support the development of tourism. “The full accession to the Schengen area directly concerns not only Bulgarian and Romanian businesses, but also all companies from around the world that operate in our region,” he emphasized. Minister Nikolov added that Bulgaria is also actively working on the transition to the single European currency, which will not only increase investor confidence but also facilitate trade and financial stability.

The Minister of Economy pointed out that our country continues to consolidate its role as an active participant in regional economic cooperation and its positions as a key factor for stability and security in our region.

Dr. Nikolov underscored that the opportunities before the Bulgarian economy are great, especially in the field of technology and innovation. “We have a rapidly developing IT sector, which provides new horizons for growth and innovation,” he said and added that Bulgaria is already an established leader in the field of information technology in the region, and actively encourages investments in startup companies and innovation projects.

“The global challenges we face, related to the economy, energy, or security, require global solutions. Together we can achieve economic stability and promote sustainable development. Our cooperation is of key importance for overcoming these challenges,” he concluded.
