Minister Nikolov Meets with Representatives of the Management of Mondi Group Bulgaria

An invitation has been sent for a meeting with the company’s senior management to discuss the future of the paper mill in Stamboliyski.

Following an invitation from the Minister of Economy and Industry, an official meeting took place at the Ministry between Dr. Petko Nikolov and representatives from Mondi Group’s management in Bulgaria. The discussion centered on the announced discontinuation of the company’s production activities in the country. Deputy Ministers of Economy and Industry, Dr. David Sukalinski and Nikolay Pavlov, also attended the meeting.

Minister Nikolov asked to be informed of the reasons behind the investor’s intention that led to the decision to cease the operations of the plant and dismiss the employees working in Stamboliyski.

At the meeting, the Minister of Economy stressed the need for the plant to keep running, calling it a key enterprise for the region.

Dr. Petko Nikolov conveyed the Ministry of Economy and Industry’s clear support for the workers’ requests for more information about the plant’s future and its operations.

He urged the company representatives to look into ways for Mondi Group to restart the plant’s operations, considering its strategic importance to the country’s industry and economy. Nikolov confirmed that the state is ready to help find a new investor who would keep the plant running and protect the jobs.

He said that the government agrees with the workers that if the plant is sold, the new owner should be an investor who will continue and grow the production activities and keep the current jobs.

A meeting took place with the head of production at Mondi Stamboliyski and members of the initiative committee dedicated to preserving the plant. During the meeting, the committee shared their concerns about the potential closure of the plant and the sale of its assets. All parties acknowledged the plant’s strategic importance to the region and agreed that its production activities should continue.

During the meeting, it was announced that the Minister of Economy and Industry has already taken steps to engage with the senior management of Mondi Group, requesting a meeting to discuss the future prospects of the Mondi Stamboliyski plant in Bulgaria.
