For the first six months of the current year, trade with Hungary amounts to nearly EUR 1.2 billion, the Minister of Economy stressed.
Hungary is among Bulgaria’s key partners in the fields of trade and investment. In 2023, the trade exchange between the two countries reached nearly EUR 2.3 billion, and for the first half of the current year alone, it already amounts to nearly EUR 1.2 billion.
The Minister of Economy and Industry, Dr. Petko Nikolov said this at the opening of the Bulgarian-Hungarian business forum attended by over 70 companies from both countries in the sectors of automotive, energy, agriculture, electrical engineering and electronics, ICT, pharmaceuticals, and the food and beverage industry. The event is taking place in Budapest, with the Minister of Economy welcoming the Bulgarian and Hungarian companies participating online.
Minister Nikolov said that the aim of the forum is to deepen the existing strong trade relations between Bulgaria and Hungary and to create new opportunities for cooperation, investment, and economic partnership between companies from both countries.
The Minister of Economy emphasized that promising areas for deepening bilateral relations include trade, industry, tourism, and digital technologies.
Dr. Petko Nikolov stressed that Bulgaria is an attractive destination for investments and outlined the opportunities available to Hungarian companies for establishing themselves in the industrial zones within the country. He announced that, as per data from the Bulgarian National Bank, the total investments from Hungary in Bulgaria amount to EUR 2.4 billion.
In his opinion, forums such as this are particularly suitable for establishing sustainable business partnerships that will contribute to strengthening the trade and economic ties between the two countries.
The event was organized by the Commercial and Economic Affairs Office of the Ministry of Economy and Industry and the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Bulgaria to Hungary, His Excellency Christo Polendakov and representatives from the National Company Industrial Zones, the InvestBulgaria Agency, and the National Association of Municipalities in the Republic of Bulgaria attended.
