Minister of Economy Bogdan Bogdanov visited the newest hypermarket in Sofia, in which 40 million BGN have been invested

The company expands its investment in Sofia with 40 million BGN and creates 70 new jobs

Minister of Economy and Industry Bogdan Bogdanov met with the management of Kaufland Bulgaria and visited the newest 14th hypermarket of the retail chain, a day before its opening. The company has made an investment of 37 million BGN and created 70 new jobs. Minister Bogdanov welcomed the company’s efforts to expand its investments in support of Bulgarian producers and to offer even more local products. With the new store, the total value of the retailer’s investments in the capital exceeds 370 million BGN and the number of the chain’s stores in the country becomes 64. The Economic Affairs Minister was briefed on the technological innovations in the newest hypermarket as well as the company’s plans to expand the value added from its operations.

“Kaufland ­ Lyulin 3 offers over 21,000 products and applies daily quality control throughout the chain ­ from the manufacturer to the shelf. “Our newest hypermarket is built in line with the company’s policy for environmentally and energy efficient construction and is equipped with environmentally friendly systems. Here we will employ 70 people and with them the total number of employees in Kaufland Bulgaria is approaching 7,000, which consolidates our position as one of the largest employers in the country.” This was emphasized by the company’s CEO Ivan Chernev to the Minister of Economy and Industry Bogdan Bogdanov during the visit to the newest subsidiary.

The General Manager of the German-Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mitko Vassilev, PhD, also took part in the event and pointed out that the significant successes are only implemented as a result of good interaction between the state and the business. “Kaufland is one of the largest German companies that, despite the difficult economic situation, does not stop making significant investments and creating new jobs in Bulgaria. With the store in the quarter of “Lyulin” company strengthens its leadership position and continues to add value to the Bulgarian business environment,” he added.

Kaufland Bulgaria is among the leaders in the retail sector with an annual turnover of nearly 1.9 billion BGN and is one of the largest employers in the country ­ with a team of nearly 6 900 employees. In 2023, the company has 63 hypermarkets in 35 cities.
