Minister Karanikolov will launch a Conference on ‘Innovation and Competitiveness. The Core Industries – a Key Driver of Growth’

Economy Minister Emil Karanikolov will launch a conference on ‘Innovation and Competitiveness. The Core Industries – a Key Driver of Growth’. This event is under the patronage of the Ministry of Economy and has been scheduled in the calendar of the Bulgarian Presidency of the Council of the European Union.

The opening speech shall be held by Mr. Eric Mamer, Director of the European Commission’s Directorate for Competitiveness and European Semester, and presentations shall be given by the CEOs of the European Branch Organizations – the European Chemical Industry Council (CEFIC), The European Association of Steel (Eurofer), the European Association of Non-ferrous Metals (Eurometaux) and the International Federation of Industrial Energy Consumers (IFIEC).

The topics of the conference will discuss EU policies and the priorities of the Bulgarian Presidency, which have an impact on the competitiveness of the industry, such as the digital economy, high-tech processes and value chains, the circular economy, investment in new products and sustainable development.

Leading Bulgarian companies will present their top achievements and best practices in the production of ferrous and non-ferrous metals and chemical products. The conference will be closed with a final document that will be presented as the basis for EU industry policy discussions with EU economic ministers during the Informal Competitiveness Council.

The Bulgarian Association of Metallurgical Industry, the Bulgarian Chamber of Chemical Industry and the Bulgarian Federation of Industrial Energy Consumers have been in charge of organizing the conference.

The conference will start at 2 p.m. on January 31, 2018 in the Sofia-1 Hall of the Marinella Hotel, Sofia.
