Minister Loukarsky names STARTUP Company of the Year in the IT sector

Minister of Economy Bojidar Loukarsky named the most successful STARTUP Company of the Year at the Bulgarian Association of Information Technologies (BAIT) award ceremony. The prize in this category went to Transmetriks AD. The company applies Big Data concept in cargo industry to improve the capacity through forecasting future volumes of shipments.

The software solution of Transmetriks can estimate the future volumes of shipment to accuracy above 90%. Thus, the empty space in cargo services may be reduced significantly, while creating an opportunity to increase annual profits of carriers with up to 300%. These findings have been identified on the basis of the activities carried out with several pilot customers that are leading companies in the sector such as DHL Express, for example. The optimized sector will decrease the release of harmful gas emissions.

Boosting business initiative and innovation is a key priority of the Ministry of Economy. Minister Loukarsky said at the ceremony that the Ministry has taken the initiative to shorten the periods needed for issuing the Blue Card. This will allow attracting foreign IT professionals in the sector, where there is currently a shortfall of nearly 10,000 specialists.

“As many foreign IT professionals to draw in, the Bulgarian ones will remain one of the best in Europe and the world,” Minister Loukarsky added.

Projects in nine categories were awarded at the ceremony, including the best business innovation, the most successful e-business, projects in the state and municipal administration, a prize for journalistic contribution to the development of the IT industry and etc.The special prize was awarded by the President Rosen Plevneliev to Thedosiy Teodosiev, a physics teacher at the Nikola Obreshkov High School of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, Kazanlak, and head of the specialized school of applied mathematics and physics. Telerik won the Business Innovation category awarded by Deputy Prime Minister Meglena Kuneva.
