The Ministry of Economy and Industry announced competitions for trade representatives of Bulgaria in 23 countries

Minister Bogdanov: We have created the conditions for transparent and competitive procedures

For the first time, the evaluation committee includes representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, employers’ organisations and experts with proven experience

The Ministry of Economy and Industry has announced recruitment for 23 vacancies for Sales Representatives in the Trade and Economic Affairs Offices (STIV) of the Republic of Bulgaria. Of these, 8 are for European countries, 13 for non-EU countries and 2 for CIS countries. The deadline for submitting applications is 3 November, inclusive – 15 working days from the publication of the notice on the official website of the Ministry of Economy and Industry.

“We have created the conditions for transparent and competitive procedures. We advertise the competitions to the whole public so that all qualified people with expertise can apply. I believe that the new faces will contribute to Bulgaria becoming more and more recognizable as an investment destination for business development, as well as to supporting the export of Bulgarian companies to foreign markets,” the Minister of Economy and Industry Bogdan Bogdanov said.

He pointed out that the key to the development of our economic relations is to have trade representatives around the world who work for the interests of Bulgarian business, as well as to apply clear criteria for monitoring the work done by them. “For years we have not been represented by STIV in countries that are important trading partners of our country, which has negatively affected bilateral economic relations,” Minister Bogdanov pointed out.

For the first time, representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, nationally represented employers’ organisations, experts from academia, educational institutions and NGOs are involved in the evaluation committee. All of them have proven experience and expertise in the fields of foreign economic cooperation, trade, investment, business environment, international law and others, in view of the subject of the STIV’s activities.

According to the requirements of the advertised competition for sales representatives, candidates must have a university degree – Master’s degree, fluency in the commonly accepted language of the country they are applying for, as well as a mandatory knowledge of English. The criteria also include digital competence, a minimum of 6 years of work or service experience and proven experience in foreign economic and trade relations.

There are also specific requirements including knowledge of the economic development of the country applied for as well as of our country’s bilateral relations with the latter. Knowledge of the legal framework and the international obligations of the Republic of Bulgaria related to the specifics of the work in the STIV.is also required.

Applicants who are admitted to the next stage of the procedure will have to submit an analysis of the existing bilateral foreign economic and trade relations of the Republic of Bulgaria with the country for which they are applying. The focus should be on potential opportunities for development, investment and trade over the next 4 years.

The foreign language proficiency will be tested through a specialised examination to establish the level of proficiency and the digital competence will be tested through a specialised test.

The 23 vacancies for Sales Representatives in the Trade and Economic Affairs Offices are as follows – for 8 European cities – Berlin, Copenhagen, Lisbon, Oslo (with accreditation for Iceland), Bratislava, Istanbul, Prague and Bern (with accreditation for Liechtenstein); 13 positions for countries in Asia, Africa and America, which include: Algeria, Delhi, Jakarta (with possible accreditation for Singapore and Malaysia), Tehran, Amman, Ottawa, Doha, (with accreditation for Kuwait and Oman), Beijing, Havana, Dubai, Washington and Chicago; and two positions for CIS countries, which include Baku (with accreditation for Turkmenistan) and Almaty (with possible accreditation for Kyrgyzstan).
