The possibilities for enhancement of the cooperation between Bulgaria and Russia were discussed at a working meeting between the Cо-Chairpersons of the Intergovernmental Commission

Possibilities for the increase of the exchange of goods and the development of the economic connections in the bilateral relationships with Russia were discussed at a meeting of the Cо-Chairpersons of the Bulgarian – Russian Intergovernmental Commission for Economic and Scientific – Technical Cooperation which was held in Varna. The Minister of Energy Temenuzhka Petkova and the Deputy Minister of Economy Daniela Vezieva took part from the Bulgarian side and the First Deputy Minister of Justice of the Russian Federation, Mr. Sergey Gerasimov participated from the Russian side. Representatives of the state power and of companies participating in the bilateral relationships were included in the delegations of the two countries.

The objective of the meeting is to activate the work of the Intergovernmental Commission and to develop the resolutions passed during the 15th session held during the month of January in the city of Sofia.

”I do believe that the conducted constructive discussion and the proposals made both on the Bulgarian and on the Russian part, will render assistance to the development of the full potential of our bilateral relationships“, the Deputy Minister of Economy Daniela Vezieva declared during the meeting. The trade economic, the investment and regional cooperation, as well as the cooperation in the field of small- and medium-sized enterprises, energy, tourism, construction, agriculture, information communication technologies, transport, shipbuilding and ship repairs, science and education were noted down amongst the spheres of priority in the bilateral relationships with Russia.

“We are interested in recovering the volumes of the bilateral economic cooperation and in particular the exchange of goods with the Russian Federation”, Deputy Minister Vezieva pointed out. According to her words, the discussions conducted within the framework of the meeting contributed to the setting out of specific measures for the expansion of the trade-economic connections between the two countries. The food industry, the electronics, the metal processing, the sewing industry are spheres of priority for the increase of the export of Bulgarian goods. The Deputy Minister of Economy emphasized that the active participation of the regions in the bilateral cooperation creates possibilities for the development of the trade and good perspectives for the development of the exchange of goods.

Vezieva indicated that on the Bulgarian part concern is stated with regard to the decline in the bilateral trade. “We would like that the quantities of supplied Bulgarian articles which are well known on the Russian market from the following commodity groups: medicaments, equipment for the construction, reinforcement articles, parts for motor vehicles, perfumery, cosmetics and so on should be restored.”

The Head of the Russian Delegation, Mr. Gerasimov, noted down: “During the meeting we discussed in detail the course of the fulfillment of the resolutions from the 15th session of the Intergovernmental Commission, as well as the results of the held during this period sessions of the six working groups of the Commission, as well as the discussions of the experts on the main for the bilateral cooperation issues: energy, automobile and shipbuilding, agriculture and education.”

Minister Petkova thanked the Cо-Chairman on the Russian part Mr. Gerasimov for the successful cooperation between the two countries in the sphere of the gas and oil branches, nuclear and electric energy. The Russian country is one of the main suppliers of energy resources for Bulgaria. According to her words, thanks to the good joint work between Bulgarian and Russian companies, approximately 87% of the anticipated activities under the Programme of priority for the Government for extension of the term of operation of the 5th block of NPP (Nuclear Power Plant) Kozloduy were implemented. “We expect that by the end of the year the measures related to the extension of the life of the nuclear energy block should be completed“, Petkova noted down.

Within the framework of the execution of the attained arrangements, during the 15th session of the Intergovernmental Bulgarian-Russian Commission for Economic and Scientific-Technical Cooperation, growth was marked of the supplies of Russian production of facilities for the electric power transmission system of the Electric Energy System Operator EAD. The development of the cooperation between Bulgartransgaz EAD and ОАО Gazprom was also noted down during the expert talks, inclusive of with regard to the agreement for reverse virtual transmission of natural gas at the Bulgarian-Greek border for the users on the territory of Bulgaria.

The process for recovery of the volume of the bilateral trade with services also actively develops, inclusive of noting down a 30 % growth of the tourist flow from Russia to Bulgaria
