Deputy Minister of Economy and Industry Nikolay Pavlov opened a meeting of the fact-finding mission of the Consumer Policy Committee of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). It was held at the Ministry of Economy and Industry in connection with Bulgaria’s application for membership in the organisation.
During the meeting issues related to consumer policy in the field of e-commerce, safety of consumer products, unfair commercial practices, consumer access to judicial and non-judicial procedures for the resolution of consumer disputes, cross-border cooperation between market surveillance authorities and others were discussed.
One of the main objectives of the OECD experts’ fact-finding mission was to assess Bulgaria’s readiness to implement OECD consumer protection policies, practices and legal instruments in the following areas. These include the safety of consumer products, consumer protection in e-commerce, consumer dispute resolution and consumer remedies, protection from misleading cross-border commercial practices and others.
In the framework of the fact-finding mission, the OECD Consumer Policy Committee experts held meetings with representatives of the Directorate for Consumer Policy of the Ministry of Economy and Industry, the Commission for Consumer Protection, the State Agency for Metrological and Technical Supervision, the Communications Regulation Commission, the European Consumer Centre, as well as with representatives of consumer associations.
