Regulators have commenced their supervisory activities to prevent any abuse during the introduction of the single currency. This was stated by Deputy Minister of Economy and Industry Dontcho Barbalov during one of Bulgaria’s most prominent economic forums, “The Sound of Money” 2025, which brought together representatives of institutions, businesses, the banking sector, and others.
During the conference, Deputy Minister Barbalov highlighted the Coordination Mechanism for Monitoring and Oversight relate to the introduction of the euro in Bulgaria. According to him, the aim of the Mechanism is to ensure more effective price monitoring in the period before and after the euro’s adoption, as well as to raise public awareness on the subject. “The awareness and literacy campaign for the public and businesses on the topic of the euro is the most important task at the moment,” Deputy Minister Barbalov added.
Barbalov firmly stated that with the adoption of the euro, Bulgaria becomes a fully integrated member state. “We are part of the wider European area and the large European market. Until recently, we were on the periphery – now we are moving to the centre of Europe,” he said.
During the event, the Deputy Minister of Economy also stressed that the adoption of the single currency will have a positive impact on the participation of Bulgarian enterprises in the EU, on the search for business partners, and on their integration into European value chains. “My priority is to convince people that adopting the euro is a positive process, and the transition from the lev to the euro must be carried out in an informed way so that the benefits of membership can be felt by everyone,” said Deputy Minister Barbalov.
