Deputy Minister David Sukalinski: Food Industry Among the Most Important and Strategic Sectors of the Bulgarian Economy

The food and beverage industry is among the most important and strategic sectors of the Bulgarian economy. It provides a significant share of Bulgaria’s gross domestic product and plays a crucial role in sustainable development, public health, and the quality of life. Deputy Minister of Economy and Industry, Dr. David Sukalinski, said this at the opening of a forum dedicated to the Food Industry Day, organized by the Union of Food Industry, member of the Federation of Scientific Engineering Unions in Bulgaria.

The Deputy Minister of Economy extended his congratulations to the ninety thousand individuals employed in the industry for their professionalism and dedication, which form the foundation of the sector’s sustainable development. He stressed the significant role played by next-generation technologies in the advancement of this sector, noting that they optimize production, make it healthier and more environmentally friendly, and facilitate market realization among the informed and discerning choices of modern consumers.

Dr. Sukalinski expressed confidence that the food industry will continue its sustainable development with a commitment to environmental care and the production of goods that bring health and joy to people.

The Deputy Minister of Economy presented the awards—a plaque and a certificate—to six of the enterprises recognized in the national competition organized by the Union of Food Industry at the Federation of Scientific and Technical Unions for the implementation of new products and technologies in 2024. Among the recipients of the award is the state-owned company LB Bulgaricum for the development of Probiotic Lactose-Free Ayran.

The event was held under the patronage of the Minister of Agriculture and Food, with the participation of the Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Associate Professor Deyan Stratev, and representatives from industry organizations and the business sector.
