Deputy Minister David Sukalinski: Added Value from Industry Amounted to EUR 10.7 Bln Last Year

The Bulgarian industry has an extremely important role in the country’s economy, with its contribution to the GDP being nearly 20%. In 2023, the added value created by it amounted to EUR 10.7 billion, and the number of enterprises operating in the sector is around 30,000. Deputy Minister of Economy and Industry Dr. David Sukalinski made this statement at the opening of the 78th International Technical Fair in Plovdiv. He noted that, despite global challenges, the sector continues to be stable.

Deputy Minister Sukalinski pointed out that, taking into account the current business environment, Europe is once again emphasizing industrial development to achieve sustainable growth. “To maintain the competitiveness of the European economy, the focus of policies is on the development of high-tech sectors, which I am glad to see represented today at the international exhibition,” he added. Among the sectors that will contribute to creating high added value, the Deputy Minister listed energy, digital technologies, the aviation industry, mechanical engineering, as well as industries related to the development of the circular economy and environmentally-friendly production.

Dr. David Sukalinski outlined the government’s key objectives for the development of Bulgarian industry, which include reducing the sector’s carbon footprint, increasing digitalization in production, improving resource and energy efficiency, and introducing circular production models. “Successfully implementing a comprehensive industrial policy will enhance the economy’s competitiveness, stimulate innovation and investment, create new jobs, and help overcome regional disparities in the country,” the Deputy Minister underscored.

Dr. David Sukalinski visited the exhibition, which showcases around 231 companies, including direct manufacturers and trade representatives from 25 countries.

The forum is held from September 25 to 28, and this year it will feature 68 new Bulgarian and international companies. They present modern environmentally-friendly construction, mechanical engineering, energy, digital technologies in manufacturing, home and trade, heavy machinery, hybrid transport vehicles, and unmanned aerial vehicles.
