Over the past decade, bilateral trade between Bulgaria and the United States has tripled, reaching over USD 2 billion. This was stated by the Deputy Minister of Economy and Industry, Krasimir Piperkov, during the opening of the Explore US conference. According to him, this potential can be further developed and expanded in sectors such as information technology, industrial manufacturing, the food industry, the textile industry and others.
Krasimir Piperkov emphasised that economic cooperation between the two countries is of significant strategic importance for Bulgaria. He noted that the topic also has a personal dimension for him, as he worked in the United States for more than 25 years and developed various start-up companies. Attention was also drawn to the Explore US platform, which provides an opportunity for Bulgarian and American companies to exchange valuable experience. It is particularly valuable for those seeking to enter the US market. “The Ministry of Economy and Industry will continue to support Bulgarian businesses through its Commercial and Economic Affairs Offices. They will provide you with the necessary support related to specific requirements, trends, conditions and opportunities,” Krasimir Piperkov added. The Deputy Minister of Economy and Industry also commented on Bulgaria’s accession to the United States Visa Waiver Programme, noting that the removal of visa requirements will facilitate business partnerships and contribute to the expansion of economic ties between the two countries.
The event was also attended by the Minister of Innovation and Growth, Irena Mladenova; the Chargé d’Affaires of the United States to Bulgaria, Martin McDowell; representatives of the management of the Executive Agency for the Promotion of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises; the American Chamber of Commerce in Bulgaria (AmCham); the Bulgarian Development Bank; as well as Bulgarian and American companies.
The international Explore US conference is organised by the Executive Agency for the Promotion of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises and the American Chamber of Commerce in Bulgaria (AmCham), with the participation of the Embassy of the United States in Bulgaria.
