Deputy Minister Lazarova: We are working to strengthen the role of metrology as an important factor for economic development

The Deputy Minister of Economy participated in a conference on the occasion of World Metrology Day – May 20th.

Metrology has always been an extremely important link in the economy of every country. It plays a significant role in industrial production and international trade. It also provides a number of opportunities for improving quality of life and environmental protection. This was stated by Nevena Lazarova, Deputy Minister of Economy and Industry, during a conference on the occasion of World Metrology Day and the 150th anniversary of the signing of the Metre Convention.

This year, the global celebrations of the day are held under the motto: “Measurements for all times, for all peoples,” chosen to highlight the significance of measurements.

“Our goal is to unite our efforts and work together to strengthen the role of metrology as an important factor for economic development,” Lazarova noted.

The event was attended by Paun Ilchev – Chairman of the Bulgarian Institute of Metrology, Evgeni Simeonov – Chairman of the State Agency for Metrological and Technical Surveillance, Assoc. Prof. Georgi Milushev – Chairman of the Union of Metrologists in Bulgaria, and others.

World Metrology Day – May 20th, marks the anniversary of the signing of the Metre Convention in 1875. This treaty forms the basis of the international measurement system, which in turn underpins scientific discoveries and innovations, industrial production and international trade, as well as the improvement of quality of life and the protection of the global environment.
