We will develop a sustainable policy that combines tradition and the future – for the benefit of the people and the regions. This was stated by the Deputy Minister of Economy and Industry Nevena Lazarova who opened the conference titled Bulgarian Crafts – Traditions Meet the Future. The event is held within the framework of the European Commission’s EU Capital Tour initiative. It is part of the information campaign by the Patent Office of the Republic of Bulgaria in connection with the introduction of the new registration system of geographical indications for craft and industrial products at the European Union level.

Deputy Minister Lazarova emphasised that under the conditions of modern economic dynamics, the importance of crafts is becoming increasingly clear – both as a bearer of cultural heritage and as an incentive for regional development, entrepreneurship and job creation in rural areas.

Emphasis was also placed on the active support for local manufacturing, small business and innovation, including in the craft sector. According to her, the Ministry is assisting the implementation of the new European regime for the protection of geographical indications, which provides an opportunity for Bulgarian craft products to receive wider recognition and protection at the European level.
