The industry creates over 3% of the added value in the industry
‘Innovation contributes to increasing the competitiveness of the Bulgarian furniture and wood processing industry and its entry into new markets.’ This was commented by the Deputy Minister of Economy and Industry Dr. David Sukalinski during the opening of the twentieth TechnoMebel exhibition. This year’s edition, which showcases the latest technologies in the sector, starts today and runs until 26 April at Inter Expo Centre. Around 100 companies are participating in this year’s edition, exhibiting over 300 Bulgarian and foreign brands.
According to Deputy Minister Sukalinski, the furniture industry is among the sectors that have been developing steadily in Bulgaria in recent years. The industry creates over 3% of the added value in the industry and employs more than 30 thousand people, which is 4% of the employed in the industry. The furniture industry has significant potential for creating added value and providing employment, as well as stimulating investment and the development of small and medium-sized enterprises.
‘The sector is among the traditional industrial industries of Bulgaria, which have a good raw material base, established infrastructure and play a leading role in providing jobs today’, Deputy Minister Sukalinski further said. According to him, the enterprises support economic and social development in the remote and less industrialized areas of the country, which contributes to overcoming regional inequalities.
The opening was also attended by the Deputy Minister for Agriculture Miroslav Marinov, the Chairman of the Board of the Branch Chamber of Woodworking and Furniture Industry Prof. Dr. Vasil Zhivkov and representatives of employers’ organizations. Technomebel is attended by exhibitors from Bulgaria, Turkey, Romania and others. Manufacturers and distributors of woodworking machinery and equipment and others will be present with their stands. During the exhibition they present the latest technologies for wood processing and furniture production, new materials for furniture production, as well as everything necessary for equipping woodworking and furniture factories.
