State aid types

What are the types of State aid?

  • Direct – a direct money transfer to the enterprise that you represent, or;
  • Indirect – without a direct money transfer from a public body to the enterprise that you represent, you obtain economic benefit, taking part in events, financed with public funds, e.g., participation in international exhibitions, fairs, partnership in a project for training of employees from your company, receipt of free-of-charge consulting services or at rates, lower than the market levels (in the cases when the consulting organization is granted public funds to provide such service), free-of-charge advertising on state-owned TV channels, infrastructure projects, favouring individual consumers or consumer groups, etc.

According to Commission Regulation (EU) No 651/2014 of 17 June 2014 that declares certain categories of aid compatible with the internal market. Also, in application of Articles 107 and 108 of the Treaty, relevant for the operational programmes and grant programmes, the types of aid, available to the business, are listed below [1].

Regional aid shall not favor activities in the steel sector, the coal sector, the shipbuilding sector, the synthetic fibres sector, the transport sector as well as the related infrastructure, energy generation, distribution and infrastructure.
