“Throughout the first six months of 2018, the bilateral trade between Bulgaria and the Republic of Korea equals values of nearly 135 million USD, reaching a nearly 80% increase compared to the same period of 2017. This value includes 40.5 million USD export from Bulgaria and 94.2 million USD import from Korea.” This was announced by Minister Karanikolov on the occasion of the Republic of Korea’s National Day celebration.

Private investments in Bulgaria in the group of economic sectors relevant to the circular economy are valued at around 81 million EUR, which is 0.18 % of the GDP and above the EU average of 0.12%. This was stated by the Deputy Minister of Economy Lilia Ivanova in her speech at the opening of the Conference on “Circular economy and environment”, organized by Srednogorie Cluster. The Deputy Minister added that the employed people in these sectors are over 59 thousand, accounting for an increase of 1.72%, while the added value amounts to around 521 million EUR and is also growing with 1.2%.

“Bilateral trade between Bulgaria and Germany reached record high levels and exceeded 7 billion leva annually, which is an indicator that German investors view our country as a reliable and stable economic partner.” Deputy Minister Lachezar Borissov made this statement during the official reception of “25 years of German economic in Bulgaria”, organized by the German-Bulgarian industry and trade chamber.

The EU is the main producer and exporter of dual-use goods and technology and due to this fact is an important participator in the export control arrangements regarding the non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction. In order to remain adequate to the threats before the EU security due to the rapid technological and scientific advancement, it is necessary that the EU regime is modernized regularly. In 2016 the European Commission (EC) undertook a legislative procedure in modification of Regulation (EC) #428/2009 to set up a Community regime for the control of exports, transfer, brokering and transit of dual-use items.

In the second session, “European practices and models for financing and promoting innovation” was presented by Prof. Nikola Redi, a venturer in Venture Factory. Participants discussed the possibilities of national agencies to search for new practices for attracting investments aimed at the rapid development and uptake of innovation in practice.
